Apple Computer Inc has licensed its SNAps communications software for linking Macintosh personal computers to IBM Corp mainframes to Redmond, Washington-based Wall Data Inc. SNAps 3270, 5250 for the AS/400 and the SNAps Gateway will now be sold and supported through both Apple and Wall Data distribution channels. Wall Data also plans to develop a Macintosh version of its Rumba personal computer-to-host communications software, based on SNAps technology and integrated into the existing Rumba family of products for Windows and OS/2. The agreement will result in an exchange of royalties based on sales of SNAps products and their derivatives. Apple has also licensed its DAL Data Access Language to Fremont, California company Independence Technologies Inc. DAL will be marketed under the Independence Technologies label and the company will provide support to all Data Access Language users. The Apple Programmers and Developers Association will continue reselling DAL worldwide. The agreement calls for Apple to take an unspecified minority stake in Independence.
