Apple Computer Inc has launched its first servers optimised for the Internet. The Apple Internet Server Solution for the World Wide Web is designed to make it affordable and easy to publish information and establish a presence on the Web. It is a bundled package that includes a PowerPC-based 6150 Workgroup Server and all software needed to make the server accessible to others on the World Wide Web. It includes Adobe Systems Inc’s Acrobat Pro suite and starts at $2,900, from next month; the company highlights the fact that it is about half the price of Sun Microsystems Inc’s very successful Internet servers. It also unveiled the Apple Education Series, including the Personal Internet Solution Bundle, and said that its eWorld on-line service will include access to the World Wide Web this summer. The Apple Education Series: Personal Internet Solution Bundle is designed to enable schools to connect to the Internet and access the World Wide Web. The package includes the necessary software, an external modem, a step-by-step guide to set the thing up, and a trial offer from a national Internet service provider.
