APPLE JAPAN CONTINUES FIGHT AGAINST UNAUTHORISED IMPORTS

By CBR Staff Writer

Apple Computer Japan is continuing its fight against unauthorised imports of its machines – which are sold at substantially below Japanese list prices by charging a premium to users of the grey imports for the Japanese version of the operating system: Apple has set the price of its Japanese OS KanjiTalk 6.0.4 version at $450, a sevenfold increase on the old price, for new users and users of grey imports; for existing KanjiTalk users, it costs only $45 to upgrade to the new release; grey imports are at least 20% cheaper than the ones sold through Apple Japan.
