APPLE HUNTS UP FOR 2,000 NEW PEOPLE

By CBR Staff Writer

Apple, reports Newsbytes, is hunting for up to 2,000 new people, Hewlett-Packard Co is to start hiring again for the first time since 1984, Sun Microsystems’ employee base is growing so fast that the firm keeps running out of space to put them, and according to the San Jose Mercury, Seagate Technology and Intel are also hiring like people were going out of style: the explanation, say analysts, is that foreign demand is growing rapidly – the fadeaway dollar feeding through to exports? – and demand in the Valley for marketing and hardware and software engineers is said to be so great that those available are able to name their own salaries – and count on a year-end bonus amounting to 10% of annual salary.
