Claris Corp failed to escape the Apple Computer Inc fold, but Apple yesterday announced one that did get away. General Magic Inc has been formed by three former Apple employees and Apple is the largest corporate investor in the start-up, albeing a minor ity one. The company plans to develop a new class of Personal Intelligent Communicator products, and Apple also has the first non-exclusive licence to manu facture and market the kit. Apple said it chose to spin out the project because Magic will address market segments that are outside Apple’s mainstream market.
