Apple Computer Inc’s take on the new arrangement is that its Apple Business Systems division will hand over marketing and support of its Data Access Language Server for AS/400 to IBM, where it will become part of IBM’s AS/400 Client Series, end-user products and application development tools designed to make the AS/400 a better server: Data Access Language Server for AS/400 version 1.4 enables Macs to access information on AS/400 systems across either SNA or TCP/IP networks, and one of the Macs can also act as the system console – a far cry from being stuck with cranky old 5250s.
