Apple Computer Inc is extending the recently introduced development version of its Rhapsody operating system (CI No 3,267) with the promised Mac OS compatibility environment, code- named Blue Box. The new environment joins the Yellow Box already shipped with the original offering, an object-oriented environment based on NeXT Software Inc’s OpenStep (CI No 3184). The Blue Box enables developers to run Mac OS in full screen on Rhapsody without modification and switch between the Blue Box and Yellow Box environments. Apple says the Blue Box will be distributed via CD-ROM to all 10,000 or so developers who received the original release and can be installed on the existing Rhapsody Developer Release for Power Macintosh. Rhapsody currently runs on selected Power Macintosh models including 8500, 8600, 9500 and 9600 systems.
