Ahead of next week’s launch – enfin! – of the Macintosh System 7 operating system, Apple Computer Inc has introduced two configurations of the low-end Macintosh LC personal computer specifically aimed at building base in the business microcomputing market by increasing the memory, storage and display capabilities. The LC with 2Mb main memory and 40Mb disk plus 512Kb video RAM is $2,500, and with 4Mb and 80Mb disk it’s $3,000 – without a keyboard in each case so that users can choose the one most appropriate for their applications. The expansion to 512Kb of video RAM means that the machine will put up 256 colours on the 13 Apple RGB display – VGA puts up only 16 colours on such a display. The LC with 2Mb and 40Mb disk and 256Kb video RAM – but with keyboard, is still $2,500.
