Apple Computer Inc announced that its online store recorded sales of $1.9m in its first 24-hours of operation since the launch of the PowerBook G3 notebook computers on Wednesday of last week. The notebook was largely responsible for the sales spike. Apple’s education online store, also launched last Wednesday recorded more than $1m in its first 24 hours period. Impressive as this is – although Dell Computer Corp derives a lot more sales through its web site – the novelty of web-based computer sales has largely worn off in our opinion.
