Faced with what could be a defection of software developers on a massive scale, Apple Computer Inc is making many of its Mac OS development tools freely available on CD, as a benefit of joining the company’s Apple Developer Programmes worldwide. Some will also be available for download from the internet for free for students, hobbyists and non-program members. Previously, the tools were available only through the Apple Developer Catalogue. Apple is also licensing the tools to third party tools vendors, with Metrowerks Inc the first to take advantage of the offer. Metrowerks wlll be making them available as part of its CodeWarrier and Discover toolsets. The tools include the Macintosh Programmer’s Workshop, MacApp, SourceBug, MacsBug and the Power Macintosh debugger.
