Apple Computer Inc has introduced three new color ink-jet printers that are the direct result of its OEM licensing agreement with Hewlett-Packard Co, announced last September (CI No 2,999). Apple promised new printers within nine months of the agreement and has delivered right on time. The entry-level, four- color StyleWriter 4100 will go for $230, while the mid-range StyleWriter 4500 has photorealistic color and multimedia printing capabilities for $330. Both will ship July 1. The StyleWriter 6500, available now for $450, offers professional quality ink-jet printing to users of both Mac OS and Windows, a first for Apple. All of the new printers are based on HP’s printer engine technologies and can be shared by Mac OS users on an EtherTalk network with the new EtherTalk Adapter II, available in August for $180.
