Apple Computer Inc and Finnish telecommunications company Nokia Oy are participating in a new electronic commerce trial using Mondex smart-cards and has gained the financial backing of the Unisource NV joint venture between PTT Telecom Netherlands, Telia of Sweden, Swiss Telecom PTT and AT&T Corp. The pilot is designed to enable mobile telephone users to perform electronic banking, and credit card type transactions using Nokia 9000 Communicators and Apple’s 2000 MessagePads. Trials are running now in the UK and the Netherlands.
