The new services will enable consumers to download films on the same day as the DVD release, with prices ranging from $9.99 for back catalogue films and $14.99 for the latest releases. Amazon intends to also offer rentals, according to the newspaper.

Apple’s downloads will be available through its iTunes store. So far, it has only struck a deal with Disney, whereas Amazon has reportedly secured deals with every major studio except Disney.

Both firms declined to comment on the speculation.
