Confirming rumours that Apple may release an updated line of its iMacs, the company has revealed that it has refreshed its iMac desktop computer which will now come with new and faster Intel Corp processors — Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs.

There were reports last week that Apple may release new models of iMac desktops with Sandy Bridge processors, Intel’s newest family of Core processors, this week.

The company said that the new iMacs will feature new Thunderbolt ports. The ports which allow extremely fast transfer of data were introduced earlier this year in the MacBook Pro laptops.

Apple has claimed that Thunderbolt, which is an input/output technology, are 20 times faster than USB ports.

Among other features of the new line of iMacs are: Facetime HD camera, AMD graphics, and multi touch mouse and pads.

The upgrade comes only nine months after the iMac started using the first-generation Intel Core CPUs.

Apple has announced that the new iMacs are on sale online, with 21.5-inch model starting at $1199 and the 27-inch model starting at $1699.
