US-based Apple has agreed to withdraw its patent claims against Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S III Mini smartphone, the latest move in the long running patent war between the two companies.
The move from the iPhone maker follows Samsung’s assurance to the court that the phone will not be sold in the US.
Last month, Apple had claimed that six more Samsung products, which include Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wifi, Galaxy Tab 2 10.1, Rugby Pro, and the Galaxy S III Mini, infringe its patents.
AFP quoted Apple’s latest federal court filing in San Jose, California which said, "Apple will agree to withdraw without prejudice its request to include the Galaxy S III Mini in this case given Samsung’s representation that it is not making, using, selling, offering to sell or importing that product into the US."
Earlier this month, US District Court Judge Lucy Koh, who is reviewing the long running patent trial between Apple and Samsung, had denied the iPhone maker’s request to ban 26 Samsung products from sale.
In November this year, a US judge had ordered Apple to reveal all details of its deals with HTC to Samsung, in response to a recent plea by the South Korean firm.
In August 2012, Apple had won $1.051bn in a patent suit against Samsung which was allegedly violating six of seven of US firm’s patents for smartphones.
