Apple Inc. has been sued in Beijing No.2 Intermediate People’s Court by several Chinese authors for what they accused as downloading of copyright-infringing books through Apple’s online stores.

The damages from the lawsuit go up to 11.9 million Yuan ($1.9 million), as reported by Caixin, a Chinese journal.

The nine authors are a part of the China Written Works Copyright Society (CWWCS), who claimed that around 37 works have been subjected to copyright infringement.

The authors’ body has approached the court after failed attempts over several months in pursuing Apple to remove the books from its store.

No official rebuttal from any Apple’s spokesperson has come in this regard, and neither CWWCS nor the Beijing No.2 Intermediate People’s Court was reachable for comment.
