Apple reportedly starts production of next-generation iPads

Technology giant hopes for a more stable footing

By CBR Staff Writer

Apple has reportedly given green light to its suppliers to start the production of next generation iPads, which are expected to be out by the end of 2014 or early next year.

Production for the full-scale iPad with 9.7-inch display has already begun, with another version of 7.9-inch iPad mini to follow soon.

Reports suggest that the production of Apple’s larger iPad may have been restricted due to complications with adding a new anti-reflection coating that will make the device easier to read in daylight.

The move comes as Apple witnessed two straight quarters of decline in its tablet computer segment and is hoping to revive sales.

iPad is the second biggest production category after iPhones but the sales of iPad for the fiscal third quarter of 2014 was down by 13.3 million units.

Apple is also planning to launch its flagship iPhone 6, health oriented smartwatch and two iPads by December to target the holiday season shoppers.
