Apple reportedly in Healthkit talks with hospitals

Firm may be looking at Allscripts collaboration.

By Ben Sullivan

Apple has been in talks surrounding how its Healthkit service will be implemented with health workers at hospitals in the United States, as well as how it can work with Allscripts, the e-health records provider.

The news was broken by Reuters, which cited people familiar with the matter.

If true, the discussions indicate that Apple’s eyes are clearly focused on diving into the health data market, currently burgeoning with the rise of Big Data.

Statistics such as blood pressure, ailments, weight, height, and all sorts of other data is currently collated by various third-party software applications on numerous devices, but Apple obviously hopes that a marked entrance into this sector with its Healthkit system will result in increased branding and profits.

Healthkit is set to be on the upcoming iPhone 6, to be released this September, and will become the mainstay of Apple’s push into mobile healthcare. Google and Samsung are also both exploring this opportunity.
