Apple Pay partners with American Express to expand footprint

News: Global roll begins north and south

By CBR Staff Writer

Apple and American Express will launch ‘Apple Pay’ to Australia and Canada, followed by Spain, Singapore and Hong Kong in 2016.

Apple Pay will be made available to American Express Card Members on iPhone, Apple Watch or iPad.

It will work for consumer, small business and corporate American Express Cards.

Consumers will also be able to make in-app purchases.

American Express said actual card numbers are not stored on the device when a user adds a card to Apple Pay, instead a unique ‘Device Account Number’ is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on their device.

It also said that every single transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

American Express mobile products and payments vice president Tony Prentice said: "With our global reach, we are able to bring Apple Pay to Card Members quickly in these important countries."
