Apple resumed its battle with Samsung Electronics over smartphone patents as it asked a US court to issue a preliminary injunction to halt the sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

Apple contends that Samsung’s smartphone infringes on four of its patents, of which one is for Siri and one for unified search, among others.

In 2011, Apple’s attempt to get a preliminary injunction in a California court to block sales of Samsung’s 4G smartphone and Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer was unsuccessful.

The patents are the patent equivalent of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, according to Patent specialist Florian Mueller.

Muller feels as Apple won its ITC suit for data tapping patient, it will certainly win this too.

On the other hand, he feels the battle for other patents would drag on.

This lawsuit is different unlike the earlier ones, as Apple is now focusing on technology rather than on design issues.

Apple and Samsung are currently slugging it out in over 10 countries over patents.
