Apple may reportedly release a new line of iMac desktops with Sandy Bridge processors, Intel’s newest family of Core processors.

AppleInsider has reported, citing people familiar with the matter, that Apple plans to introduce the new models on Tuesday, 3 May.

This week, Apple reportedly made requests of various operating segments as it normally does before a new product release, said the report.

If Apple does release the new line of desktops, the upgrade will come only nine months after the iMac started using the first-generation Intel Core CPUs.

Early this year, Intel had stopped shipping the sandy Brodge processsors, it released in January 2011, after it found a faullt that caused some connections to disk drives and DVD drives to degrade over time. It resumed the shipments after rectifying the flaw.
