Apple has launched fourth generation iPad with Retina display that would replace its iPad 2 model in the market.

The new iPad 4 features a 9.7-inch Retina display, the Apple-designed A6X chip processor and is made available in two versions including the Wi-Fi model and the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

iPad 4 will support ultrafast Wi-Fi and worldwide LTE carriers, and features 5MP iSight camera capable of capturing 1080p HD video, a FaceTime HD camera as well as a 10 hours of battery life.

Apple Worldwide Marketing senior vice president Philip Schiller said, "The iPad line sets the gold-standard in mobile computing and all iPads have access to the largest and best ecosystem of more than 500,000 iPad optimized apps from the App Store."

Running on the new iOS 7 operating system from Apple, the fourth generation iPad comes with new features including Control Center, Notification Center, better multitasking, AirDrop, enhanced photos, Safari, Siri and iTunes Radio.

The new iPad is launched at a price of $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model and $529 for the Wi-Fi + Cellular model.

The company claims that the device would be an improved one in terms of power, performance and value compared to the iPad 2 it replaces.

Apple has also launched the cheaper, low capacity version of its plastic-backed iPhone 5C in Australia, China and some European countries.

The new iPhone 5C has an 8GB capacity and is available at £429.
