iPad maker Apple has launched its application store for Macintosh computers with more than 1,000 free and paid downloadable apps.
Users need to run Apple’s desktop and server operating system Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store.
Mac users can use their iTunes accounts to download the apps.
The Mac App Store is similar to the App Store for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, Apple said on its homepage. Users can browse Mac apps by category, such as games, productivity, music, and more or search for something specific.
Apple has provided developer descriptions and user reviews for each app. The company has also featured a few of its favourite apps on the site.
"No more boxes, no more disks, no more time-consuming installation," reads a note on Apple’s homepage.
Among the apps is a photo editing software Aperture for $80 and a music editing programme GarageBand for $15.
