Apple has unveild iBooks 2 for iPad, featuring iBooks textbooks, a new kind of textbook that is said to be dynamic, engaging and interactive.

iBooks textbooks offer iPad users fullscreen textbooks with interactive animations, diagrams, photos, videos, unrivaled navigation, among others, and they can be kept up to date, don’t weigh mucg and need not be returned.

iBooks 2 app with its navigation, highlighting and note-taking, searching and definitions, plus lesson reviews and study cards allow students to study and learn.

Leading education services companies including Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, McGraw-Hill and Pearson will deliver educational titles on the iBookstore and with the new iBooks Author.

iBooks Author is as a free authoring tool from the Mac App Store and lets any Mac user create iBooks textbooks and publish them to Apple’s iBookstore.

With iBooks Author, authors and publishers across the value-chain can start creating with Apple-designed templates that feature a wide variety of page layouts.

It lets user add own text and images by simply dragging and dropping, and with the Multi-Touch widgets user can add interactive photo galleries, movies, Keynote presentations and 3D objects.

Apple Worldwide Marketing senior vice-president Philip Schiller said with 1.5m iPads already in use in education institutions, including over 1,000 one-to-one deployments, iPad is rapidly being adopted by schools across the US and around the world.

"Now with iBooks 2 for iPad, students have a more dynamic, engaging and truly interactive way to read and learn, using the device they already love," said Schiller.
