Apple has expanded its device trading programme, dubbed the ‘Apple Reuse and Recycling Program’, to non-Apple devices, as well as extending the programme online for users to exchange their old devices for an Apple gift card.

Customers willing to trade in their old devices can take their devices to an Apple store for valuation, which must turn on to fit into the programme.

However, if the device does not qualify for the programme, Apple will not leave the users empty-handed, as it will take the old device with user consent to make sure that the device is recycled responsibly.

Presently, the company is only accepting selected devices from rivals Samsung, Sony, Nokia, LG, HTC and Blackberry.

For Desktop and Notebook, the company is only accepting devices made by Apple and Windows.

The price of the gift card that customers can use to avail discount on their new Apple devices depends upon the condition of their old device.

Presently, the programme is available to users in the UK, US and some parts of Europe.

The Reuse and Recycling Programme was initially launched in the US in August 2013, followed by the UK in October 2013.

Apple CEO Tim Cook said: "We have a long way to go, and a lot to learn. But now more than ever, we will work to leave the world better than we found it."
