Apple has acquired the personal social networking assistant startup Cue for about $40m (£25m).

Apple said it would integrate Cue’s email and social network in the company’s iOS 7 operating system’s to provide information about upcoming plans for users.

A message on the official Cue website said users who registered through the website will receive a prorated refund.

"Cue Premium users registered though the iPhone App can request a refund through iTunes," the message read.

"In accordance with our privacy policy, your data and personal information will not be stored or transferred; it has been permanently deleted."

Cue gathers information from emails, contacts and calendars to create a list of the user’s upcoming events.

The move is expected to strengthen Apple’s position against Google’s Now service.

Cue, formerly known as Greplin, was founded by Daniel Grossalong with Robbie Walker which was later integrated with Cue last year.
