The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), the all-volunteer developers, stewards, and incubators of Open Source projects and initiatives, has launched Apache Pivot 2.0 Open Source platform for building installable Internet applications (IIAs).
According to the company, Apache Pivot provides a professional-grade foundation for building and deploying sophisticated and engaging GUI applications that can be downloaded and installed.
The new Apache Pivot 2.0 features include dynamic data binding; support for named styles; support for SVG images in addition to standard bitmap-based images; and overhauled TextArea component.
It also features additional color schemes optimised for a variety of popular desktop environments, serializer events, and eclipse launcher.
Apache Pivot combines the upgraded productivity and usability features of a modern user interface toolkit with the power of Java or any other JVM-compatible language, such as JavaScript, Groovy, or Scala.
Apache Pivot vice president Greg Brown said it is a truly open offering for creating visually rich, highly functional desktop or Web-based applications.
