AOL REACHES LEGAL AGREEMENT WITH CYBER PROMOTIONS

By CBR Staff Writer

America Online Inc has reached a legal settlement with junk electronic mailer Cyber Promotions Inc, Dresher, Pennsylvania under which Cyber is allowed to broadcast its ads only to those of America Online’s 8 million subscribers that have specifically asked to receive them. Meantime, a federal judge in Columbus, Ohio barred Cyber from sending unsolicited electronic mail advertisements to CompuServe Corp’s 5 million subscribers, and on Tuesday, a Federal judge in Philadelphia forbade the bulk electronic mailer from falsifying return addresses, which kept America Online Inc members from blocking the unsolicited junk.
