ANOTHER PRE-2.2 LINUX RELEASE

By CBR Staff Writer

Linus Torvalds chose Thanksgiving Eve to release version 2.1.130 of the open-source operating system, Linux, thus scotching our claim that release 2.1.129 would be the last before 2.2 (CI No 3,543). Linus called 2.1.129 perfect and bug-free, but apparently it’s his habit before announcing a stable version for general use (indicated by an even number between the two decimals) to release several perfect and bug-free developer versions, each new one fixing the bugs in the last. 2.1.130 is no exception, addressing problems in NFS, IP masquerading and elsewhere. In any case, we’ve learned our lesson. Linux 2.1.130 may be the last release before 2.2, and then again, it may not.
