ANOTHER ALPHA AXP BOX EXPECTED

By CBR Staff Writer

It seems we should expect another Digital Equipment Corp Alpha AXP box in between Jensen and Triumph: this one is code named Morgan, after still another English sports car, and we’re told it’s a low-cost desktop with a built-in PCI bus; the Triumph code name, by the way, has been changed; meanwhile, the company is bragging that it’s having trouble dumbing down the Alpha chip to make it slow enough to sell against the 80486 – it keeps coming out at 70 SpecMarks, it says; and DEC says that it will launch an Alpha-based Pixel Graphics subsystem in the next couple of months.
