The new network will give access to Cable TV and high-speed Internet service to nine cities in São Paulo State: Botucatu, Jaú, Ourinhos, Valinhos, Sertãozinho, Votuporanga, Fernandópolis, Itatiba and Avaré. The Alusa Group already has other cable TV operations in Brazil.
The Andrew Brazil manufacturing plant in Sorocaba will manufacture an initial 900 kilometers of broadband HFC cable for the first phase of the project, due for completion in July 2002. Andrew is also providing system design, cable, connectors, accessories, and installation services. It is anticipated that an additional 600 kilometers of cable will be needed for the second phase of the project, due to begin in September 2002.
In this contract, having a local manufacturer for the broadband HFC cables and connectors was essential as it simplified logistics, speeded timing, and enabled us to obtain project financing, said Oswaldo Zanguettin, Big TV Technical Director. Project financing was obtained under FINEM-BNDES loan system requirements, explained Gustavo Godoy, Director-President, Big TV. BNDES is the Brazilian National Bank for Economic and Social Development.
Because the Big TV system is composed entirely of Andrew-supplied products, Andrew Brazil is also providing a 10-year warranty for Big TV’s complete CATV subsystem.
