And Siemens Nixdorf has also launched the PCD-3Nsl notebook with docking unit. Weighing in at 6 lbs, the 80386SL-based system uses an environmentally-friendly Nickel-Hydrogen battery, which is said to be more powerful yet weighing no more than traditional Nickel-Cadmium batteries. Battery operation is around three hours. It features 2Mb memory, expandable to 8Mb, and runs MS-DOS and Windows, a 85Mb built-in hard disk, and 3.5 floppy drive format. The notebook has a 10 liquid crystal display and is kitted out with a trackball mouse-like control. When installed in its docking unit, the system is claimed to offer the functionality of a desktop personal computer. The docking unit, in which the notebook battery can be simultaneously recharged, has three free slots for AT expansion boards. In addition, there is space for installing additional storage media such as CD-ROM drives, MT cassettes or a second hard disk. A colour monitor and full-sized keyboard can also be connected.
