AND SILICON GRAPHICS COY ABOUT IBM

By CBR Staff Writer

And Silicon Graphics is coy about its relationship with IBM Corp now that it appears IBM will drop the graphics extensions Silicon Graphics has supplied for the AIX RS/6000 family in favour of Evans & Sutherland Computer Corp technology (CI No 1,721), but says that it was not a big part of its business anyway; it has signed up for AutoCAD, WordPerfect, Adobe Illustrator, Interleaf and Informix Wingz software for the Indigo, along with computer aided design applications from Cadence Design Systems Inc and Ecad Inc; its first UK customer is the University of Leeds School of Computer Studies which is switching from a Digital Equipment Corp VAX strategy and is taking 60 Indigos for undergraduates to play with.
