…AND PREVIEWS ITS 3898-3 CACHE DISK CONTROLLER

By CBR Staff Writer

Completing the line-up, Memorex has caught up in the 3990 world, bringing out the 3898-3 Cache Controller for its 3890 Disk Storage Array Subsystem. The new model of the controller improves throughput by storing frequently accessed data in memory; it has four directors with four internal data paths, two channel switches per director, integrated string controller, 64Mb cache and 4Mb non-volatile storage as standard so that cacheing can be used for write as well as read operations; it supports cache fast write and disk fast write as stand ard. Options include two more paths to each director, up to 256Mb memory and up to 12Mb non-volatile store. It is set for limited availability in January, general availability the following month, with the fast write features in second quarter. The minimum configuration is $290,490.
