NCR Corp has also introduced an 80386SX-based 7504 Integrated Touch Screen point-of-sale workstation for the fast food business where staff turnover is high. The system incorporates an integrated flat panel touch screen and measures just 16 by 11.5 to save counter space. The 11 VGA capacitive touch screen displays menus which can be downloaded from a central computer whenever they change, to minimise training time and errors; there is also a facility to prevent accidental activation. It has features power fail recovery and battery back-up for three to six hours’ data protection. The 7054 can operate as a stand-alone workstation, a primary controlling workstation in a cluster configuration supporting up to 256 workstations in a hub configuration, nine in a star configuration, or as a resource-sharing device with other 7054 stations on a local area network. It can also function interchangeably in a Starlan environment with other NCR workstations. It starts at $4,890, available now.
