In another network related announcement, Hitachi Ltd announced a low-end, space-saving version of its H-6655 communications processor: the H-6655-110 is targeted at users configuring small networks and it has maximum capacity of 32 9,600bps full-duplex lines and two 1.5Mbps high-speed digital leased lines; it supports a maximum of two 4Mbps or 16Mbps Token-Ring Networks and two Ethernets, plus a maximum of two host channel connections; the new processor can take up to 8Mb memory; the machine runs the XNF network operating system, based on Open System Interconnection standards; the other H-6655 models are the 210, 220 and 240 with 8Mb, 16Mb and 32Mb maximum memory respectively, with the top model supporting up to 256 lines and up to four host channels; Hitachi hopes to sell 1,000 of the new baby model over the next five years.
