Plano, Texas-based DSC Communications Corp is having to reduce its workforce by 500 people, about 12%, to reduce its costs. It already took a $1m charge to cover the cost – part of a $25.7m second quarter loss that also included $7m write-downs and $1m in bad debt provisions. DSC’s signal transfer points were blamed for failures in the phone networks at two Baby Bells.
