IBM Corp’s gigantic numbers are becoming monumental for all the wrong reasons, and Reuter has been going through its back pages to find that the $8,900m write-off is the second biggest of all time, following General Motors Corp’s $21,040m in April 1992. Ford Motor Co is third, $6,660m in early 1992; AT&T Co next with $5,640m in April this year, and then IBM again with $5,460m at the end of last year. AT&T is sixth with $4,880m in fourth quarter 1983, and in again at 10.
