Digital Equipment Corp also announced price cuts across its range of FDDI equipment. The reductions, which follow those of around 20% announced eight months ago, are of up to 45% on bridges and controllers. DEC has also increased the port density of the DECconcentrator. Price cuts average 33% for the DECbridge 500 and 600 series products and 13% for the FDDIcontroller/EISA network interface board. The DECconcentrator 500 six-port ANSI module can now support up to 18 FDDI ports on a stand-alone DECconcentrator, reducing per port cost to UKP410. A DEC spokesman said the price cuts are attributable to a reduction in the company’s margins and to reductions in the cost of the components.
