ANALYSTS DIVIDED ON MICROSOFT’s LICENSING OF MAC OS

It was known that it wouldn’t be included in Monday’s non-announcement of a new PowerPC standard, but the fact that IBM Corp still has apparently not made up its mind whether to buy a global licence to Mac OS is exercising industry observers: some people confidently expect IBM to make a joint announcement on licensing Mac OS with Apple Computer Inc at the opening of Comdex next Monday, but analysts contacted by Reuters are not so sure – it is dancing around the issue of whether it will license Mac OS, and the issue is likely causing internal strife at IBM,analysts told the wire in New York – but as we show on today’s front page, that seems academic now…
