Analog Devices Inc, Norwood, Massachusetts has signed to share research and development with, and use foundries operated by, Hewlett-Packard Co in the field of sub-micron mixed-signal processes. Analog gets immediate access to Hewlett-Packard’s submicron CMOS and BiCMOS technologies and the products it designs will initially be manufactured in Hewlett-Packard’s facilities, although the agreement gives Analog Devices the right to obtain a licence to manufacture the products it designs with the Palo Alto company’s technology in its own facilities when production requirements justify the investments needed to bring submicron manufacturing capability in house. It expects to ship its first 0.55 micron parts in 1993 from the Hewlett-Packard foundry and will likely continue using it even after it brings its own submicron fab on line.
