America Movil, a provider of wireless services in Latin America, has launched software defined radio-based GSM/UMTS converged network in Panama using Huawei Technologies’s SingleRAN.
According to Huawei, the SingleRAN system allows America Movil (AMX) to simultaneously provide end-users with reliable voice and data services from GSM and UMTS 1900MHz based networks at the same time.
Huawei’s system for AMX is end-to-end, from network planning to network deployment. Using Huawei’s software defined radio (SDR)-based fourth generation base station, AMX’s GSM and UMTS services can now be supported simultaneously from a single BTS (base transceiver station).
Huawei claims that when user demands need to be shifted between GSM and UMTS services, the SingleRAN system will enable AMX to realize effective operation and management through a simple software update.
Zhang Shunmao, president of Huawei Latin America, said: We are honored to have been selected by AMX to help them launch the world’s first SDR-based GSM/UMTS network. Huawei’s fourth generation BTS is the centerpiece of Huawei’s SingleRAN wireless solution which is bringing enormous advantages to operators such as AMX.
