The Advanced Manufacturing Systems Centre, AMSYS, is to open in the industry centre at Sunderland Polytechnic; the UKP1.7m facility is being supported by a UKP688,000 grant from Wearside Opportunity, while the balance will be met by ICL Plc, BYG, Sunderland Polytechnic and a number of manufacturers; AMSYS will have a large-scale demonstration facility to illustrate the benefits of integrating robots and computers into the manufacturing process; it will employ 16 staff initially.
