Amstrad Plc’s autumn blitz yesterday included stripped down models of its 80286- and 80386-based machines at rock-bottom prices designed to enable dealers to configure their own systems, the facsimile machine at UKP600 and a giveaway of a Motorola cellular telephone for use on the Vodafone network with every PPC laptop sold between now and January 1. The new PC1286 and 1386 come with 1Mb, 1.44Mb floppy drive, VGA graphics adaptor, serial and parallel ports, LIM 4.0 memory expansion, five slots, external disk connector, operating system and a language for UKP750 with a 12MHz 80286 processor, UKP1,250 with a 20MHz 80386. Screens are extra – there’s a 12 mono and 12 and 14 colour displays. The expansion kit for customising includes a 5.25 half-height bay, two 3.5 half-height bays, two drive indicator lights and cable. Up to 600Mb of disk can be installed. The FX96000T combines facsimile machine and telephone handset with automatic sheet feeder and paper cutter. The PCW9512 word processor is being offered with a free UKP100 auomatic sheet feeder for the printer that holds up to 30 sheets, until January 1. The Motorola Callphone 8500X is the model being bundled with the PPC512 and PPC 640 laptops, and the new products will be backed with UKP12m advertising.
