Redwood City, California-based Ampex Inc says it is offering for sale a majority interest in its magnetic recording media subsidiaries, which are currently wholly owned: it will retain an advisor in connection with the potential sale, and will also evaluate with investment bankers a possible public offering of the majority interest in Media or a spin-off of Media to Ampex holders.
