Pursuing its announced strategy of expansion in Taiwan, Amkor acquired Sampo and TSTC assembly and test services factories in Shang Pao and Tai Hung. Now, Amkor’s agreement with King Yuan Electronics rounds out its service offering within the Taiwanese market and will provide additional test capability and capacity to its growing Taiwanese business. King Yuan’s strong Taiwan market presence coupled with Amkor’s world class technology will enhance the market competitiveness of both companies and will energize Amkor market growth in Taiwan. This agreement includes but is not limited to sharing technology and business resources to provide Amkor’s and King Yuan’s customers with world class assembly and test turnkey services.

With Amkor’s dominant global presence, we expect to leverage this relationship worldwide. Amkor’s agreement with King Yuan Electronics enhances the competencies of both companies and provides a competitive advantage during current market conditions, said Joe Holt, Amkor’s vice president of WorldWide Test Services. King Yuan offers Amkor a full range of test services, from test development to tape and reel packing. Additionally, Amkor will provide assembly services to King Yuan affording them the opportunity to expand their own business in Taiwan.

We expect this strategic collaboration could help KYEC to internationalize and Amkor to localize in Taiwan to setup a win-win situation for both companies, said DF Lin, President of KYEC.

This strategic agreement complements industry trends toward closer collaboration of resources between corporations in the semiconductor industry providing for a structured division of labor and resources to meet market and end customer requirements. Amkor and King Yuan’s agreement position both companies to aggressively capture market share in the Taiwan market.
