Amkor launches new M-WeST module

Can it reduce the cost for testing RF modules?

By CBR Staff Writer

Amkor Technology, a provider of semiconductor assembly and test services, has introduced an automated multi-site wireless LAN system tester capable of testing WLAN 802.11 (a/b/g/n), WiMax 802.16, Zigbee, BT, and GPS System Test Capability.

The company said that this tester integrates an off-the-shelf one-box-tester (OBT) for wireless standard conformance testing with power supplies, multimeter and PC control via any standard PC interface. The M-WeST (Multi-site Wireless enhanced System Test) module can dock to any standard ATE test handler for up to quad-site testing. Automated parallel testing reduces the cost of system-level testing and product time to market.

Additional features of the M-WeST module include: a “zero footprint,” fitting under standard pick and place handlers; RF shielding which provides isolation between sites, and extendibility to other RF system level test such as GPRS/EDGE or 3G/3.9G cellular.

Some of the new enhancements of the M-WeST module include: utilises 4 LitePoint IQ test modules; automated Multi-site Wireless OBT Test Solution; SDIO/GPIO, continuity and current testing; SC3000 Station Controller; RF isolation shielding; and single, dual, or quad site capability.

Seyed Paransun, senior vice-president of test group at Amkor, said: “The M-WeST module can significantly reduce the cost of RF system-level testing. We kept our system development cost low and reduced time to market by using existing WLAN system testers, which allows us to offer lower acquisition and test costs to our customers.”
