Amkly Systems Inc, the privately held Irvine, California-based company that sells memory expansion boards for PS/2s and Compaq Computer Corp machines, has confirmed that it is now looking to start distribution of its own personal computers in Europe; Amkly was set up by AST Research co-founder Albert Wong and has since sold off its memory expansion business to Xtend Micro Products; it is now focussing on its EISA-based desktops that employ a modular design to allow easy processor upgrades, and the low cost Amkly Stations launched this October; discussions with distributors in Germany, the UK and Belgium have started, and the first contract is expected to be signed before the year end; in Belgium, a cautious AB Computers SA which also sells AST Research and Sun Microsystems machines, confirmed that it was evaluating the kit but said that any deal was distant.
