The American Express Co says it has chosen Computer Associates International Inc’s Unicenter TNG as its core systems management tool across the organization. The decision was made after an evaluation period between Unicenter, Hewlett-Packard Co’s OpenView, and IBM Corp’s Tivoli systems. American Express will use Unicenter on both its mainframes and distributed systems. It is currently consolidating IT services that originally evolved separately, so that its card and travel services and financial planning business all use the same infrastructure. The company has already reduced its multiple data centers to two, sited in Minneapolis and Phoenix. The International Bank division of American Express is currently excluded from the Unicenter deal, as the operations were outsourced to Electronic Data Systems Corp a year ago.
