AMERITECH LOOKS TO OFFER LONG DISTANCE SERVICE IN MICHIGAN

Ameritech Corp has asked US regulators for approval to offer long-distance phone service in Michigan, making it the first Baby Bell to seek approval to provide long-distance service in its own region – but has predictably hit trouble with AT&T Corp, which says the filing is premature because no major competitors are yet in its local calling market in the state.
